BIRD WATCHING
Lake of the Woods has long been recognized as a paradise for bird watchers. More than 120 species of birds have been noted in the area around Duck Bay Lodge. You will have a chance to observe birds nesting, graceful pelicans and bald eagles gliding against the deep blue sky, and blue herons guarding the shores. Osprey, hummingbirds, turkey vultures, pileated woodpeckers, Canada geese and many duck species all vie for the birder’s attention.
A PHOTOGRAPHER’S PARADISE
Bring your camera! With its majestic scenery and bountiful wildlife, Duck Bay Lodge is a photographer’s paradise. Explore the shorelines of Lake of the Woods and view the lush forest, vivid native flowers and magnificent vistas created by nature. Otters, beavers, muskrat, mink, moose, white-tailed deer and many other magnificent animals abound.
For a unique adventure, arrange a sightseeing flight in a floatplane. And did we mention the incredible sunsets and the sky full of more stars than you ever imagined?
ROCK PAINTINGS
Ancient pictographs grace the steep rock faces of a number of islands located near Duck Bay Lodge. These curious remnants of early native culture are believed to be up to 1,000 years old. Both the substances used to make the paint (berry juice, spruce gum, fish oils or tallow, and certain minerals) and the subject matter of the drawings themselves, present mysteries to scientists.
JUST WANT TO RELAX?
The great outdoors is the perfect place to unwind, and there are so many things to do in Ontario. Duck Bay Lodge offers swimming, canoeing and lawn games.
